We envisioned that Kumalarang will become a progressive and culturally rich Municipality having a competitive and environment-friendly economy with adequate support infrastructure facilities well-secured be empowered, vigilant, healthy God-loving and self-reliant community who lived in a safe, clean, and balanced ecology which is sustained by pro-active, responsive, and welfare-oriented local leaders who continuously ensure that implementation of gender-sensitive development policies.


To empower the citizenry through sect oral groups for social and economic development laying down the foundation of a responsible community by strengthening local leadership and maximizing the utilization of agricultural and fishery resources for sustainable growth in a friendly an ecologically balanced environment.

During the year 1878 the known ruler Principe Datu Dakula was on his way searching for a place where he and his followers could possibly settle and establish a community. While on their way, they found a luminous and brilliant stone in the mouth of a river which they call in Maguindanao dialect as "KUMALA". The ruler decided to establish and build their houses in this fine place. The location was then fenced with a round piece of wood which they call "LANDANG". Since then, the place was named by Datu Dakula II as KUMALANDANG.

In the year 1900 Datu Dakula II died and was succeeded by his son Datu Dakula III who was named before as Mohammad Yosos. During the region of Datu Dakula III, he was befriended by an American military General Wood who was on military mission in the Philippines. In 1916, the name KUMALANDANG was modified by the Americans as KUMALANDANG. With the influence of the leaders of the Dakula Clan supported with Christian brothers residing in the area. KUMALARANG became a municipality.
