Family Income and Expenditure
The only available data for family income and expenditures
is the Family Income and Expenditures Survey (FIES) of 1997. The
result of the latest 2001 FIES has not yet released by the National
Statistics Office (NSO).

Based on the Family Income and
Expenditures Survey (FIES) of 1997, the total family income
of Zamboanga del Sur was estimated at P18,663 Million. This
figure posted an increase of 69.7% over the 1994 data at P10,997.5
Million.
The total family expenditures in 1997 reached to P 14,290.3
Million It was higher by 31.80% over the P10,182.6 Million
in 1994.
Adjusting for the inflation that occurred within year 1994
to 1997, total family income grew only by 31.8%. On the other
hand, total family expenditures moved up by 34.6 % only.

The average income of Filipino
families residing in the Province in 1997 was estimated at P78,307.
It yielded an increase of 55.9% compared to the 1994 level which
was placed at P50,222.
The average expenditures also increased from P41,934 in 1994
to P63,613 in 1997 posting a growth of 51.7%.
Inflation-adjusted estimates also showed an increase of only
21.1% in average income and 17.8% growth in average expenditures
within 1994 to 1997. (Table 4.3)

The estimated average family savings in 1997 survey amounted
to P14,694 which was higher by 77.3% than the 1994 figure
placed at P8,288. Removing the effects of inflation, the increase
was equivalent only to P11,408 or 37.6 %.
