Erosion

Accelerated soil erosion occurs when high intensity of rain falls on exposed soil surface. As erosion continues, rills and gullies develop. Associated with erosion is the loss of organic matter and nutrients concentrated on the surface soil, and the subsequent deposition of sediments, which reduces the capacity of stream channels to carry floodwaters.
