Mineral
Resources
The Province has substantial reserves of primary
metals like gold, copper, chromite, iron, lead and manganese. Among
others, these deposits are found abundant in the Municipalities
of Bayog, Dumingag, Mahayag and Labangan.
On the other hand, the non-metallic minerals that
are found in the Province in commercial quantities are marble, limestone,
and clay.
Marble reserves, on the other hand, are widely
dispersed in various areas in the Province. The Zamboanga del Sur
marble is regarded as highly comparable to the best of the world
in terms of abrasion resistance, good quality and color variety.
Table 2-9 below shows the location and the estimated positive reserves
of the metallic and the non-metallic resources in the area.
