SUCCESSION OF POLITICAL LEADERSHIP
Provincial Officials
Here are the provincial leaders of Zamboanga
del Sur whose names ought to be carved in letters of gold in the
Hall of Fame, viz:
July 1, 1952 - (1952-54)
"The Pioneer" - Acting Governor, Appointed by President
Quirino.
March 20, 1954 - , "The Builder," was appointed governor
of ZDS by Pres. Ramon Magsaysay.
November 1955 Local Elections - - the first elected Governor of ZDS
was sworn in on January 1, 1956.
November 1959 Local Elections - re-elected. Vice-Governor: Hon. Vincenzo
A. Sagun
1962 - (designated to the position vacated by Rep. Sagun
after the latter's election to Congress), was appointed by President
Macapagal to take Gov. Ebarle's place.
November 1963 Local Elections:
(1962-67) "The
Innovator" was elected governor.
Vice Governor: Hon. Vicente M. Cerilles.
November 1967 Local Elections:
Vice Governor: Hon. Bienvenido A. Ebarle
1969 -
assumed governorship
Vice Governor: Hon. Vicenta C. Enerio
(1970-73) Representative, lone district of Zamboanga del Sur
1971 - November Local Elections:
Hon. Vicente M. Cerilles chose to retain his congressional seat
after he won as governor.
(1971-77), "The Administrator" served as governor. Vice
Governor: Hon. Vicenta C. Enerio.
Sept. 21, 1972
Pres. Marcos declared Martial Law (P.D. 1081)
Conress was abolished. Later however, an Interim Batasang Pambansa
was convened.
1977 - Congressman Cerilles took over the governorship
of the province.
1980 - Local Elections:
(1979 -
84)
Vice Giovernor Raymundo R. Jose
1984 - , "The Reformist," became governor by operation
of law when Gov. Cerilles won a seat in the Batasang Pambansa.
1985 - , "The Successionist," (under the same
law on succession) became Governor upon the death of Gov. Jose.
January 1986 Snap Presidential Elections:
Pres. Ferdinand E. Marcos (Proclaimed winner)
Vice Pres. Arturo Tolentino also won by COMELEC Count.
President contender Corazon C. Aquino et al, contested
the results of the snap elections.
