Telecommunications

The Cruz Telephone Company (CRUZTELCO) provides telephone services in Pagadian City and several strategic municipalities like Molave, Dumalinao and Margosatubig. At present, it has 1,395 lines, which facilitate smoothly the flow of information and business transactions within and outside the Province. The Pagadian City Telephone Exchange (PACITELEX) under DOTC is currently serving limited connections within the urban barangays in the city which will be expanding to rural barangays. Other telephone providers cater long distance via PLDT. Mobile Phone Systems also available such as SMART, GLOBE and Touch Mobile with cell sites located in Pagadian City and Molave. The municipality that can be reached by mobile phones are: Molave, Tukuran, Labangan, Dumalinao, Guipos, San Miguel and Dinas. Other municipalities with antenna can also be reached by mobile phones.

Public Calling Offices

Sometimes in 1996, the Municipal Telephone Project (MTP) installed Public Calling Offices (PCO's) in all the municipalities of the Province. However, only few PCO's are operational for inter provincial calls only. The other PCOs remain non-operational. This system is under the supervision of the DOTC through the Municipal Telephone Office.

In year 1999, the Barangay telephone project started its installation to the barangay in the province. At present, no report of operation and turn-over was conducted.

Radio Telegraphic Stations

Presently, the Bureau of Telecommunications (BUTEL) provides telegraphic services to most of the municipalities of the Province except Tambulig, Bayog, Lakewood, San Pablo, Tabina, Guipos and Tigbao . The City of Pagadian is provided with telegraph services by PT & T, TELOF and RCPI.

Telex/Facsimiles

Presently, Cruz Telephone Company, Bayantel and RCPI have fax machines to service the public. There are several units in the offices of the Provincial and City Governments, national agencies as well as the private offices in Pagadian City.

Postal Communications

All municipalities in the Province and the City of Pagadian have postal offices of the Philippine Postal Corporation. It handles mail and delivery services of the general public. There are also carrier service establishments in the Province owned by private companies, namely: the JRS Express mainland Cargo Express Services, Fast Pack Corporation, and, LBC Corporation. These companies offer cargo transfer services from Pagadian and Molave to several places in the country.

Provincial Communication System

The Provincial Communication System (PCS) based at the Capitol Building in Pagadian City, with its repeater situated at Mt. Palpalan, Dumalinao, Zamboanga del Sur, links all the municipalities, Pagadian City and of the barangays of Zamboanga del Sur. This communication system also links the Province to other provinces and cities in Mindanao, namely: Zambonga Sibugay Zamboanga Norte, Basilan, Lanao del Sur, Lanao Norte, Bukidnon, Misamis Occidental, Misamis Oriental, Cotabato Provinces, Davao Provinces, Zamboanga City, Dipolog City, Dapitan City, Oroquieta City, Ozamis City, Cagayan de Oro City, Iligan City, Tangub City, Marawi City, Cotabato City and Davao City.

Tri-Media Facilities

The tri-media facilities are served by radio, TV and newsprint. At present, there are 11 radio stations in the province of which eight (8) are Frequency Modulation (FM) while the three (3) are using Amplified Modulation (AM). All AM radio stations and the six (6) FM radio stations are based in Pagadian City while the two (2) FM are in Margosatubig and Molave.

There are ten (10) cable television networks that can access domestic and foreign stations that provide 24-hour viewing pleasure to the populace. Two (2) cable television networks serving Pagadian City while eight (8) are in the municipalities (Table 7-14). Other television sets that have no cable connections are using antennas.

Among the listed AM radio stations, DXPR of Radio Mindanao Network (RMN) has a wider coverage. Unfortunately, the far-western part of the Province can not be reached by its broadcast. On the other hand, the FM station DXCA has the highest frequency and the same station can be heard all throughout the Province. The newly opened FM station at Molave also reached the Salug Valley Area of its broadcast.

There are five (5) local weekly tabloids, namely: Pagadian Times, City Star, Pagadian Express, Zamboanga Scribe and Express Balita. These are published and circulated in Pagadian City and in the municipalities of Zamboanga del Sur. The provincial government has also its publication "BIDLISIW" that published weekly. Likewise, Molave has its Salug newsweek circulated in their locality.

There are two (2) Mindanao dailies and national dailies that are circulated in Pagadian City and in some municipalities. Some national dailies like the Philippine Inquirer, Philippine Star and Manila Bulletin are distributed in the area regularly. Likewise Freeman Mindanao and the Daily Goldstar are also available in the area. The city has several internet service providers, such as: the Webgate, Softrade, among others where various internet café rise.
