As of CY 2000, the inventory on irrigation projects
submitted by the National Irrigation Administration (NIA)- Provincial
Office showed that there are 78 irrigation systems existing throughout
the Province. Twenty four (24) are classified as Pump Irrigation
Systems (PIS) with 433 hectares as its service area and 54 are classified
as Communal Irrigation Systems (CIS) servicing an area of 6,354
hectares out of the total potential service area of about 6,787
hectares. Of the total, only 63 irrigation systems are operational
servicing an actual irrigated area of 4,725 hectares of rice land
with 3,803 farmer beneficiaries. (Table 7-16)

Small Water Impounding Projects (SWIP)/Shallow
Tube Well Projects (STWP)
The SWIP and STW projects are small farming facilities
that are complementary to each other. The SWIP projects involved
the impounding of water sources that are feasible. Its development
is technically supervised by an Agricultural Engineer and the technicians
from the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPA) base in Pagadian
City. Per reports from OPA, there are 14 municipalities covering
24 recipient barangays of the Province that are actually served
by the SWIP. These systems have a total service area of 707 hectares
and 506 beneficiaries. (Table 7-17)
The Shallow Tube Well (STW) projects were introduced
in areas where the water tables are shallow. The OPA technical men
supervised its implementation and construction while the Regional
field office personnel provided the monitoring of established equipment
and facilities. As of this time, all STW projects are functional.
There are about 174 sites/stations that were established in 81 barangays
of the Province with a total service area of 592.75 hectares and
296 beneficiaries. In some areas, STW projects are not established
due to the unfit physical characteristics and nature of the sub-soil.
