Land Transportation

The land transportation vehicles are categorized into private, government and for hire vehicles. As of 2001, there were 14,043 units registered in Pagadian City. The biggest bulk were private vehicles at 69.12%. Next to it were for hire vehicles at 26.02 % while the least at 4.86% were government vehicles. (Table 7-1)

Kilometerage of Road

As of 2001, the total road networks of Zamboanga del Sur was 3,649.41 kilometers. The national roads had a total aggregate length of 270.61kilometers or 7.41%, provincial roads followed with 452.44 kilometers or 12.40%, city and municipal roads with 346.22 kilometers or 9.49%, and barangay roads with 2,580.14 kilometers or 70.70%. (Table 7-3).

Gravel surface pavement comprised 45.86% of the total network; about 4.27% were asphalt and 10.87% were concrete roads. The remaining 39.75% were earth roads. However the national roads have on-going concreting and improvement projects funded by foreign donor and loan package while the Provincial Government also started and prioritize the concreting projects of the primary provincial roads. (Table 7-4)

The road density of the province is 0.77 km per sq. km. of land. The inter-congressional district comparison of road density revealed that District I had more roads with a density of 0.91 km. per sq. km. of land while District II has 0.62 road density. (Table 7-5)

Meterage of Bridges

For CY 2001, there were 201 bridges throughout the Province with a total length of 4,695.30 linear meters. The bridges were categorized into national bridges which comprised 26.69% of the total length; provincial bridges at 26.65% and city, municipal and barangay bridges at 46.66%. (Table 7-6)

As to the type of construction, Steel Bridges comprised 3.20% of the total length followed by Bailey Bridge with 1.41% , Timber Bridge with .58 % and 39.73% are concrete. The rest of the bridges are classified into spillway, foot bridge, PCCP and RCBC. (Table 7-7)

Distance From Pagadian City to the Different Municipalities

All municipalities in the Province are accessible by land transportation. The distances of these municipalities from Pagadian City utilizing the usual routes and land transport systems are listed in Table 7-8. The fare charged by public transport vehicles may be higher than that set by Land Transportation Office (LTO) due to the conditions of the roads and the number of utilities plying in the area.
