Non-Formal Education
This type of education offers short courses intended
for manpower development and to increase the literacy rate of the
Province. The targets are the thousands of out-of-school youths
and adults who are jobless, under-employed, semi-literate and illiterates.
In SY 2000-2001, the Division of Zamboanga del
Sur conducted Functional Education and Literacy classes distributed
to the different districts with high illiteracy rates. A total of
275 adults from 15-60 years old enrolled in the program and successfully
graduated. Although there were lesser enrollees in the previous
school year, it was noteworthy that 100% graduated from the course.
(Table 6-9)
Likewise, continuing education was also implemented
by DepEd with the assistance of TESDA decreased with 36% in 2001.
