Vocational and Technical Education

There are eight (8) government schools providing vocational and technical courses. Specifically, only four (4) institutions exclusively offer manpower development training. These are the Molave Vocational Technical Schools (MVTS), CMS Canuto Enerio Schools of Arts and Trade, the Zamboanga del Sur School of Arts and Trades (ZSSAT) and the Technical Education Skills Development Authority (TESDA). In Table 6-8, TESDA graduates from 1999 to 2001 declined due to the opening of private schools offering the same courses.

As of SY 2001-2002, there were 11 private schools that offered vocational and technical education. Out of these, only 5 schools offered vocational courses while the rest offered both formal and vocational courses. These were the Zamboanga del Sur Technical Institute (ZSTI), Zamboanga del Sur Maritime Institute of Technology (ZSMIT), Southern Mindanao Colleges (SMC), Pagadian City Institute of Electronics (PCIE) and Pagadian City Institute of Technology (PIT).
