Manpower and Health Facilities

All throughout the Province, government health programs are carried by rural health physicians, public health nurses, rural health midwives, dentists, dental aides, sanitary inspectors and medical technologists. Of the 26 municipalities there are only 17 government doctors assigned to the municipal RHUs (Table 6-20)

In addition to the regular workers, the Barangay Health Workers (BHWs) implement the primary health care services at the grassroots level. A total of 2,474 active BHWs assisted in the implementation of the primary health care and various health programs of the government. They rendered duty in the 171 Barangay Health Stations (BHS) established in the barangays.

Of the government hospitals, two (2) are located in the city with a total bed capacity of 65 while five (8) are located at the municipalities with a total bed capacity of 225. These government hospitals need to be improved and upgraded in terms of laboratory equipment, buildings, manpower and operation systems to give quality service to the constituents.(Table 6-22)
