Zamboanga del Sur's history is
inevitably linked with that of sister province Zamboanga
del Norte and Zamboanga del Sur and Zamboanga City which
was the center of all Mindanao, specially during the
American era.
Coming
into its own on June 6, 1952, it is Western Mindanao's
largest and most populous province with Pagadian City
as its capital. Zamboanga del Sur's beauty and bounty
is unmistakable. The four bays of Sibugey, Dumanquilas,
Maligay, and Pagadian are a perfect foil to the coastal
plains and interior mountains of the province.
Numerous waterfalls, lakes such
as Lakewood and Dasay, islands, and beaches, not to
mention caves and scenic mountains make for a nature
package that's hard to beat. One gets a preview of this
by standing at a high point in Pagadian City and looking
down at Pagadian Bay where the city wharf is. It is
easy to see why Pagadian is called the Little Hongkong
of the South.
Add
to this the color and mystery of the ethnic Subanons,
the dominant tribe in the province, and Zamboanga del
Sur's attraction is well nigh irresistible.
