Gov. Cerilles Calls Mindanaons to Unite for Peace
One hundred and nineteen years from the time General Emilio Aguinaldo declared Philippine independence from more than 300 years of Spanish rule on January 12, 1898 in Kawit, Cavite, many Filipinos struggle to remember what Monday’s holiday is about except that it is called Independence Day.
Gearing this year’s theme “Pagbabagong Sama-samang Balikatin”, the City Government of Pagadian in collaboration with the Provincial Government of Zamboanga del Sur joins the entire nation in the commemoration of the 119th Independence Day held at Pagadian City Complex last June 12, 2017.
“Always think as Filipino, not based on your religion and your tribe. Let us open door for peace, love and harmony. There is no way we can move forward if we don’t have that, always think for your country”, this is the message of Zamboanga del Sur Provincial Governor Antonio H. Cerilles as one of the honored guest of the said event.
He emphasized that the catastrophe in Marawi City affects all people whether Christians nor Muslims or Lumads, and It never chooses no one. The entire community are affected by the combat brought by the Maute group and allies between the government troops which the victims are the innocent civilians.
He also support the implementation of Martial Law in the entire Mindanao so that the authorities will have all the powers to totally eliminate this terror group linked to ISIS in order to achieve peace and stability in the rest of Mindanao island.
“Federalism is not the solution to the problem of secession and rebellion in Mindanao, it is the question of the true implementation of Local Government Code to be particular R.A 7160 in Sections 2,8, and 4”,to which he emphasized the real devolution of powers and funds to the local government units so that all provinces, cities, municipalities, barangays will move forward and will progress.
“The wish of the present administration to have a Federal system of government will only lead to chaos and disintegration of the Filipino people, and the downfall of the Republic”, he expound that the system will result to turmoil between LGU’s because of deficiency of funds especially to poor provinces.
“These will also result to division of the Filipino people, thus creating breakdown of government and the downfall of our Republic”, in which provinces and cities will compete and fought with one another for them to accumulate enough resources and funds to survive, he said.
“Let us unite and stand as one Filipinos, let us support our government to fight the enemies of the state to attain lasting peace in Mindanao”, he gave emphasis that we will never attain lasting peace if we are divided as Filipinos.
