Gov. Cerilles Leads Provincial Farm to Market Road Project Opening
After 4 years since the initiation of the project proposal by the local leaders of concreting the decade old undeveloped roads which connects 5 agricultural communities of Ramon Magsaysay and Tukuran towns, finally, with the effort and dedicated leadership of Provincial Governor Antonio H. Cerilles the formal Ground Breaking Ceremony and Time Capsule Laying of the Provincial Farm to Market Road Project signaling the beginning of Gapasan- Laperian-Buena Suerte- Sambulawan- Navalan road segment concreting was successfully held last March 6, 2017.
The road segment concreting that has a total length of 11.878 kilometers was funded by the World Bank through Department of Agricultures’ Philippine Rural Development Project (PRDP) with counterpart from the LGU of both towns and Provincial Government of Zamboanga del Sur. It has a total project cost of Php 102,586,000 and expected to benefit 8,703 farmers located within the 4,551.96 hectares Road Influence Area.
Led by Gov. Cerilles the ground breaking ceremonies was made in all the 5 beneficiary barangays after a formal program to include the “Information Caravan” initiated by the local and municipal officials that was witnessed by all stakeholders of the community starting from Barangay Gapasan, Ramon Magsaysay down to Barangay Navalan, Tukuran respectively.
Mayors Francisvic Villamero of Tukuran and Mayor Leonilo Borinaga of Ramon Magsaysay town along with the local officials of the respective barangays has expressed their unprecedented appreciation to the leadership of Gov. Cerilles that made them achieve to which they call a dream for the past decades but now a reality of paving a new hopes for their people who in the past years bothered by the inaccessibility of the said roads. With the full implementation of the project, this will be the key to elevate progress and ensure development to the people accordingly.
The project will also provide connectivity of farming households to market centers and be part of the value chain prime commodities to assure better income and opportunities, provide easy access to medical services, better access to academic institution especially the marginalized families, as well as improved accessibility to all basic services.
“Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country”, this was the famous quote of American President John F. Kennedy cited by Gov. Cerilles in his speech in the formal program that urge the towns people to do their share in helping the community and the government to progress by making themselves to be productive and progressive in all aspect.
“Strong democracy roots from a strong foundation of every family”, he expound that a weak family results to a weak community, a weak democracy and probably a very weak government. “We must make our province a role model as we are already declared as Peaceful and Ready for Investment province, we shall strive hard to eliminate poverty”, he said.
“With this road project, our fellows from NPA will now see that provincial government of Zamboanga del Sur are making ways to solve the problem of poverty, in this way they will understand that our government has done programs for them to be a part of the community”, he added.
“Let’s make this project to be successful and help the implementing contractor speed the completion as early as possible because this project will open opportunities for these people especially the young generation to achieve brighter future”, he concluded.
