“If ever there is really somebody out there who is trying to destroy me through character assassination, I just hope that they can bear all the bashes and the badmouthing of the people if the skeletons in their closet will be exposed. Rumors, made up stories and fake news will die down, but reality bites like a venomous serpent that will paralyze your whole being.”

This was the post of Vice Governor Ace William Cerilles in response to his detractors who spread fake news about his old photo in social media and allegedly taken in Marawi City weeks before the Maute crisis erupted.

The said photo, which was posted from an unofficial Facebook page of a supporter of President Rodrigo Duterte on May 13, shows Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV, one of the hardest critics of the President, incumbent Magdalo Rep. Gary Alejano, who sponsored the impeachment complaint against the President, former Pampanga Governor Mark Lapid, Ronald Llamas and Zamboanga del Sur Vice Governor Ace William Cerilles seated at a coffee shop.

Vice Governor Cerilles denied the allegation, clarifying that the photo was taken at Iloilo International Airport way back Sept. 4, 2015, during a meeting with the League of Municipalities of the Philippines.

“I don’t know why they are trying to link this to the Marawi siege. Check your facts!” he said.

Vice Governor Cerilles further clarify that the province headed by Governor Antonio Cerilles supported the decision of the President in declaring Martial Law in Mindanao. This is to secure the province from any threat of terrorists attack.
