Zamboanga del Sur bags 2nd National Quality Corn Achievers Award

For two consecutive years, Zamboanga del Sur is consistently avowed as one of the top producers of quality and superior corn in the entire Philippines which made province achieve the prestigious accolade of being the 2017 Most Outstanding Province in the National Quality Corn Achievers Award (NQCAA) for the second time around from the Department of Agriculture.

The province bagged rank 2 out of the top 5 provinces all over the country in these years NQCAA.  With this award, the provincial government of Zamboanga del Sur won another Php 3,000,000.00 cash which the province also won last year.

Aside from this, OIC- Provincial Agriculturist Dr. Joel Sabellano Jr. bagged the Most Outstanding Agriculturist award and won Php 40,000.00 cash likewise to Provincial Corn Coordinator Mrs. Yolanda Enriquez was also awarded Most Outstanding Provincial Corn Coordinator with Php 30, 000.00 cash prize respectively.

In an interview, Provincial Corn Coordinator Mrs. Yolanda Enriquez said that for this year, Zamboanga del Sur is among the only five provinces in the country which received the citation. The province bagged the same award in 2016.

She stressed that the province was conferred the award again because of its bountiful corn production, high quality yields and the relentless support of the provincial government to the corn sector.

“This is an assurance that the corn industry in this part of the country is following the right direction under the leadership of Gov. Tony Cerilles which gave great emphasis to the agriculture sector as one of his top priorities,” Enriquez said.

“This recognition exemplifies the significant moving forward partnerships among government and people toward achieving food sufficiency in our respective province,” she added. 

“We are looking forward of achieving our ultimate goal to attain the “Hall of Famer” award hopefully next year as we will bid for the third time, we are positive that thru our strong partnership and collaboration with our partners specially farmers, LGU’s, and the provincial government we can surely achieve this aim”, she concluded.

The Department of Agriculture initiated the NQCAA in 2013 to give due recognition to the most outstanding local government units in the development of corn sector among all provinces and municipalities all over the country towards attaining food security as one of the staple food source of Filipinos.
