Zamboanga del Sur Dominates ZPRAA 2017, Now Grand Slam Overall Champ
After dominating again the recently concluded 2017 Zamboanga Peninsula Regional Athletic Association (ZPRAA) Meet held at Dipolog City Last May 13-17, 2017 as overall champion in both elementary and secondary levels for 3 consecutive years the Zamboanga del Sur delegation is now the grand slam champs of the said region-wide annual sporting event.
The re-engineering sports development program of the province as envisioned by Provincial Governor Antonio Cerilles through establishing the first and only LGU run Zamboanga del Sur Provincial Sports Academy in the country has now attained the power-house status in youth sports as the most dominant delegation ever in history in the entire region 9.
Zamboanga del Sur, the grand slam champion, has reigned once again with a final medal tally of 129 golds, 105 silvers, and 89 bronzes base on the final and official result given by DepEd regional office. Zamboanga City finished second place in the overall tally with 80 golds, 85 silvers, and 78 bronzes. Dipolog City came in third place with a total of 59 golds, 34 silvers, 52 bronzes. While the City of Pagadian landed fourth place with a total of 27 golds, 34 silvers.
Zamboanga del Norte Province came in fifth with 24 golds, 27 silvers, and 58 bronzes. Zamboanga Sibugay finished sixth place with 14 golds, 29 silvers, and 37 bronzes. Isabela City ranked seventh place with a total of 5 golds, 14 silvers, and 35 bronzes. And Dapitan City came in last place with 2 golds, 9 silvers, and 7 bronzes.
Lastly, Gov. Cerilles in his local radio program commended all the people who are behind the success of the sports delegation and to the student-athletes itself that made all Zambosurians very proud. “Let’s continue what we have started and work even harder for us to be always on the top, Mabuhay Zamboanga del Sur! Congratulation!, he concluded.
