Zambosur Joins 13th National Organic Agriculture Congress in Ilocos Norte

Gearing this year’s theme “Organiko a wagas: tatao ken aglawlaw nadur-as”, (Organic way: for people, environmental sustainability and progress) Zamboanga del Sur Provincial delegation joins the much anticipated annual celebration of the 13th National Organic Agriculture Congress (NOAC)that was held at Plaza del Norte Convention Center,Laoag City, Ilocos Norte last November 23-25, 2016.

Zamboanga del Sur Provincial Agriculturist Office represented by Organic Agriculture Focal Person Noel Peñaloza along with Agricultural Technologist Lyn Dagohoy, Research Development Assistant Lizbeth ChristineLao in partnership with the Barangay Affairs Office Head Efren Toñacao, and Supervising Livelihood Coordinator Marivic Cuevashas productively participated the 3-days event to gain more knowledge and information in strengthening organic agriculture practices and technologies to be implemented in our respective locality.

Its objectives is to further strengthen the advocacy and promotion of organic agriculture in the country. It also showcase the organic produce of our farmers and launched the First Slow Food Philippines” Ark of Taste”.

In addition, it recognizes stakeholders having exemplary performance in the practice of Organic Agriculture, link organic producers to potential market, and update agriculture stakeholders on recent Organic Agriculture best practices and technologies.

The event spearheaded by the Department of Agriculture was personally initiated and graced by no less than Agriculture Secretary Manny Piñol who led the formal opening of the program that highlighted the launching of Slow Food Philippines “Ark of Taste” and the viewing of Organic Trade Fair Visits along with DA Usec. Bernadette Romulo-Puyat, DANational Organic Agriculture Program Coordinator Christopher Morales, Ilocos Norte Provincial Governor Imee Marcos, and as well as Sen. Cynthia Villar, Senate Chair, Committee on Environment and Natural Resources.

Meanwhile, the delegates coming from Zamboanga del Sur are very positive and excited to share what they have learned from the event back in our respective province which will be a source of new ideas and technical know-how in order to boost organic agriculture best practices in every municipalities to benefit local farmers to attain food sufficiency and productivity by means of natural way of farming method that is environmentally friendly and conserves life longevity.
