ZDSMC Welcomes Newly Acquired Electroencephalography Machine (EEG)
The Zamboanga del Sur Medical Center is considered as one of the best LGU-run hospital in the country and is now able to cater the needs of the people of Zamboanga del Sur and even other neighboring provinces. Being an LGU-run hospital is never a hindrance to the improvement and expansion of the said institution and they are now purchasing other equipments to upgrade more of their laboratories to be able to do more kinds of laboratory test.
One of the latest laboratory equipments that they have acquired is the Electroencephalography (EEG) Machine. It is an electrophysiological monitoring method to record electrical activity of the brain. It is typically non-invasive, with the electrodes placed along the scalp, although invasive electrodes are sometimes used in specific applications. EEG measures voltage fluctuations resulting from ionic current within the neurons of the brain. EEG refers to the recording of the brain’s spontaneous of Anti-Red Tape Act.
The SGLG covers more areas of governance to provide greater challenge to our local governments to continue good governance practices while providing better services.
Based on DILG guidelines, a local government can qualify as a SGLG recipient if it passes the three major standards – good financial housekeeping, the existence of a disaster reduction and management plan and the provision of social protection services.
Those who qualified for the SGLG will have the opportunity to avail of additional funds for their priority development projects from the government’s Performance Challenge Fund.
The province of Zamboanga del Sur is consistently avowed among the Top 10 Most Competitive Provinces out of 81 provinces all over the country. The provincial government was also affirmed as Most Valuable Partner by the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) for its efficient and updated tax collection which made the province earned the citation of Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) from the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG). The province is also the first PLGU in the Philippines to impose province-wide Electronic Real Property Taxation via internet connectivity for fast and well-organized collection that enable us to accumulate over Php 50 million worth of tax revenues all over the province for the very first time. responsive to the people’s needs under good governance. According to DILG, the SGLG only measured the levels of compliance to the Department’s Full Disclosure Policy, particularly in the areas of budget, revenues and procurement, among others, having no adverse COA findings, as well as meeting the requirements
electrical activity over a period of time, as recorded from multiple electrodes placed on the scalp. Diagnostic applications generally focus on the spectral content of EEG, that is, the type of neural oscillations (popularly called “brain waves”) that can be observed in EEG signals.
Furthermore, EEG is most often used to diagnose epilepsy, which causes abnormalities in EEG readings. It is also used to diagnose sleep disorders, coma, encephalopathy, and brain death. EEG used to be a first-line method of diagnosis for tumors, stroke and other focal brain disorders, but this use has decreased with the advent of high-resolution anatomical imaging techniques such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and computed tomography (CT). Despite limited spatial resolution, EEG continues to be a valuable tool for research and diagnosis, especially when millisecond-range temporal resolution (not possible with CT or MRI) is required.
In an interview with Dr. Verulo Marianito, a neurologist assigned at ZDSMC he said that they are now advance in terms of neurological care because they already have a regular Neurologist, Neuro-Surgeon and now they already acquired the said advance laboratory equipment. According to him, there are only three government hospitals who acquired the EEG Machine all over Mindanao and it is a great privileged to all Zambosurians and even to other patients from our neighboring provinces.
Through the initiative and effort of Governor Antonio H. Cerilles together with the hospital management, the ZDSMC is declared by the Department of Health (DOH) as the Best LGU-run Hospital in the country and is also the first and only 2nd Level LGUrun Hospital in the country equipped with their upgraded facilities.
